"Thank you to God for making me an atheist," says Ricky Gervais ending the 68th Annual Golden Globes Award show.

Film producer Harvey Weinstein joked at the Weinstein after-party that Gervais wouldn’t make it out of Beverly Hills alive.
Grevais said “The HFPA doesn’t want me, NBC doesn’t want me. Scientologists are out to get me. Johnny Depp is going to beat me up in the parking lot – and America won’t want me anymore after my atheist comment,”.

Gervais said he didn't think twice about any of the gags in the show that had some people feeling he was being too harsh. But, he said, he would go out of his way to soften some of them with follow-up chats with some of his celebrity targets.

Gervais also had a holiday message on God's non-existence back in Dec. 12, 2010
Why don’t I believe in God? No, no no, why do YOU believe in God? Surely the burden of proof is on the believer. You started all this. If I came up to you and said, “Why don’t you believe I can fly?” You’d say, “Why would I?” I’d reply, “Because it’s a matter of faith.” If I then said, “Prove I can’t fly. Prove I can’t fly see, see, you can’t prove it can you?” You’d probably either walk away, call security or throw me out of the window and shout, ‘’F—ing fly then you lunatic.”
